Valerie Carbajal, Bilingual Counselor

Valerie received her Master’s in Counseling from Webster University in 2006, Bachelor’s degree major in psychology in 2003. Valerie obtained her license as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in 2012 and has been a mental health clinician in our communities since 2006. Valerie also holds a 40-hour Sexual Assault Training Certificate, and a 40-hour Domestic violence training certificate. She is currently in training for an EMDR certification. Valerie has served different roles working as mental health therapist in a medical facility Family Health Partnership, and McHenry County Child Advocacy as Crisis Support Specialist working with non-offending families. She volunteered at McHenry County Turning Point for 3 years helping women who have experience domestic violence.

Valerie has been a part of the CARE Center team as a bilingual counselor for 8 years’ experience specifically working with survivors of Sexual Assault. NWCASA (CARE Center) is an agency where Valerie feels welcome, heard, and safe; under these conditions, I feel I can empower and help my clients with their healing process. Her passion is to support clients in trusting and believing in themselves and be with them as they change their lives. Counseling allows her to see how resilient, brave she can be to continue supporting clients.

Valerie is a trauma bilingual counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adult survivors. She provides individual counseling services to survivors, significant others and family therapy on an as needed basis. She uses a trauma informed, person-centered approach to therapy and use treatment modalities to the client based on their age and therapeutic needs.
